Sentence Variety: Simple Sentences
To create vibrant writing, writers must use a variety of sentence structures. The easiest type of sentence to build in English is the "simple sentence."
A simple sentence must include a subject, a verb, and a complete idea.
(S + V + Complete Idea.)
Examples of simple sentences:
1. The grandfather (subject) curled (verb) his arms around his new grandchild (complete idea).
2. From the dark hallway, a wall clock (subject) chimed (verb) twelve times (complete idea).
3. At the movies, I (subject) ate (verb) buttered popcorn (complete idea).
